On Modesty (a good analogy)

Categories: Biblical

I found an analogy over at “The Modest Ambassador”: https://www.facebook.com/themodestambassador/posts/1107129469303975. Interestingly, this very concept was presented during Jeremiah Davis’ Week of Revival and Reformation in Trinidad recently. Below is an edited version of the post.

I’ll add some comments afterwards.

Two young ladies arrived at a meeting wearing clothes that were quite revealing, and exposing their body parts. The Chairman took a look at them, and made them sit. Then he said something that they might never forget. He looked at them straight in the eyes and said: “Ladies, everything that God made valuable in this world is well covered and are not easily seen, found or acquired. Here are some questions:
1. Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
2. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up, and protected in a beautiful shell.
3. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers of rock and to get them, you have to work hard and dig deep down to get them.”

He looked at them with serious eyes and said: “Your body is sacred & unique. You are far more precious than gold, diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.” He added that, if you keep your treasured minerals just like gold, diamond and pearls, deeply covered up, a reputable mining organization with the requisite machinery will fly down and conduct years of extensive exploration.

“First, they will contact your government (family), sign professional contracts (wedding) and unearth your treasures legally (legal marriage). But if you leave your precious minerals uncovered on the surface of the earth, you will always attract a lot of illegal miners to come and mine you illegally. Everybody will just pick up their crude instruments and just have a dig on you just freely like that. Keep your bodies covered so that it invites professional miners to chase you.”

Let us all encourage our wives, friends and daughters to dress well and decent!

How true this is. We also cover what we believe is important to us: we buy cases for our cellphones, coverings for our car seats, cases for our musical instruments. We secure our money, cars and homes. We cover what we cherish – naturally.

God has placed great value on us… and He seeks to keep us covered by the shed blood of His Son. Will we uncover what God has covered?

What we wear conveys strong messages to professional miners and illegal miners alike. No professional miner will be interested in a spot where illegal miners are present… and vice versa. A professional miner will build barriers around his property – ensuring that there are no prying eyes around.

May we seriously consider these things.
